Brief History of SGRR, South 'C'
The land the gurdwara is built on was offered to Siri Gurdwara Ramgarhia Railway in 1960 by the Government of Kenya specifically for Social Development, but was not developed until 1971. By then, the Gurdwara at Landies was proving very small due to the large numbers of congregration that had grown considerably since its inception in 1903, hence the need for a larger premises.
The project was inaugurated by Sant Baba Puran Singh Ji (Kerichowale). The ground breaking ceremony that took place on the 1st of May 1972, was performed by Sardar Mohan Singh Roopra and Sardar Ujager Singh Virdee. The foundation stone was laid by Sardar Mangal Singh Bansal on 20th May 1973. On 23rd March 1975, the opening ceremony of the new Gurdwara was performed by Sardar Tara Singh and Sardar Avtar Singh Chana.
With time the Sikh population in and around South 'C' has grown substantially and with this in mind many extensions and alterations have been made to the premises. In 1982, a shed was constructed to increase the Langar area and new wash rooms and scullery was built. In 2005, a Medical Centre was opened on the lower floor to the right of the building to provide the community at large with medical facilities at an affordable rate.
Then in 2006, plans for a major extension to the existing temple facility were embarked upon and completed in 2014 giving the Gurdwara a whole new look and a grand new Darbar.
